Doha, October 11 (QNA) – The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) has organized a workshop on the development of national measurement, reporting and verification regimes (MRV) and conducting greenhouse gas (GHG) Inventories in collaboration with Qatar Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

The two-day workshop that kicked off Tuesday, addressed the concepts and principles of greenhouse gas measurement concepts and principles, development of measurement, reporting and verification regime which covers tracking the limited contributions at the national level, and development of the national greenhouse gas storage in the State of Qatar.

In addition, several experts and professionals from MOECC, including the government authorities relevant to national system for measurement, reporting, verification and development of greenhouse gas storage in the State of Qatar have participated in the workshop.

In his inaugural remark before the workshop, the Acting Director of the Climate Change Department at MOECC Eng. Saad Abdullah Al-Hitmi underscored the importance of holding such workshops that aim to train the employees operating in the field of climate change on the practical principles and aspects relevant to the development of national measurement, reporting and verification regimes.

For his part, Qatar GGGI Country Representative Dr Pranab Baruah highlighted the importance of developing the national measurement, reporting and verification regimes to fulfil the requirements of Paris Agreement on climate change and facilitate the development of carbon market in Qatar.

The workshop content was developed and submitted by the team of GGGI and professional external experts in the area of national storage of greenhouse gas emissions, measurement, reporting and verification regimes.

The workshop is considered part of capacity-building initiative launched by MOECC and GGGI within the framework of the cooperation program that includes the institute and MOECC on climate change and green growth. (QNA)
