Doha, October 11 (QNA) – University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) organized a certificate distribution ceremony for 20 Hamad Medical Corporation employees who completed a training program on the basics of studying diabetes and how to take care for patients.

“The Fundamentals of Diabetes Education” program brought together University of Doha for Science and Technology and Hamad Medical Corporation in a 7-year partnership, where university professors provided the institutions employees with classes to develop their knowledge and skills in the field of diabetes study, which constitutes an effective contribution to the national strategy to combat this disease (2016/2022) in the State of Qatar.

The program includes four units, and deals with the approach and understanding of diabetes, its spread according to peoples and the principles of its study.

On this occasion UDST President Dr. Salem bin Nasser Al Naemi, congratulated the graduates who will have a leading role in addressing diabetes, raising awareness of its risks and developing patients’ ability to take care of themselves, considering that “The Fundamentals of Diabetes Education” program is one of the most prominent training programs it provides.

The university, in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation, aims to meet the urgent need of the health sector in this field. Given the prevalence of diabetes in Qatar, UDST has recently launched a new Master of Science in Diabetic Care and Patient Education program with the aim of increasing the number of diabetes educators in Qatar.

A number of officials and specialists from UDST, the Qatar Metabolic Institute, the National Diabetes Center at Hamad Medical center, stressed the importance of supporting people suffering from this disease, managing their condition, achieving the best health outcomes, and the role of specialized health educators with diabetes, support patients and help them manage their condition and educate them and their families on how to live with it.

They also emphasized that all graduates of the program have the skills that enable them to develop a well-studied and appropriate plan for diabetes patients, in addition to implementing and evaluating it, and conveying it to them in a comprehensive manner. (QNA)
