Doha, October 15 (QNA) – The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) organized the training program for practicing doctors and other specialties on basic occupational health services, as part of the Ministry’s keenness to develop physicians’ competency in the field of occupational health and maintain the highest levels of care in the workplace.

The training program aims to increase and raise the efficiency of specialists in the field of occupational health, train doctors working in primary health care, and develop the concept of maintaining the highest quality levels of health and safety in the workplace, in addition to enhancing the understanding of the doctors role in managing and preventing the outcomes of occupational diseases and from accidents related to the environment.

During the program, 36 practicing doctors and other specialties from the Primary Health Care Corporation, the health workers centers of Qatar Red Crescent Society, other state institutions and company doctors were trained on basic services for occupational health, where lectures and studies of clinical cases, and how to deal with them, were given to enhance knowledge and skills.

The Acting Manager of Health Promotion and Non-communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Public Health Dr. Salah Al Yafei, said that workers in many countries are exposed to dealing with dangerous manufacturing materials, as there is an urgent need to reduce these risks, and therefore a number of countries are moving to reformulate their health system based on principles and values of primary health care, to provide services and achieve the maximum benefit at a lower cost while ensuring high quality.

He stressed the importance of the role of doctors participating in the training program, who will contribute to improving the professional provided health services, pointing to the aspiration of the health sector in the State of Qatar to a strong and effective partnership between the public and private sectors in this field.

For his part, the Head of Occupational Health at the Ministry of Public Health Dr. Mohammed Ali Al Hajjaj, indicated that the training program comes as a continuation of the training of doctors working in primary health care, as a group of practicing doctors and other specialties were trained during the past years from various authorities in the country, within the action plan to train medical cadres in the field of occupational health services, stressing that the Ministry of Public Health is currently preparing an integrated 10-day training program in the same field, in cooperation with World Health Organization.

The Ministry of Public Health is keen to provide the best professional and environmental health care services for workers in all industrial, construction, economic and service activities, with the aim of improving the health of workers in the public and private sectors.

The growing interest internationally in occupational health comes due to the spread of manufacturing materials and modern production methods and their effects on human and environmental health. (QNA)
