Doha, October 18 (QNA) – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry honored participants in its initiatives to support the prices of discounted consumer goods during the holy month of Ramadan, and to support the prices of sacrifices for the current year.

This honoring comes as an appreciation from the Ministry for the efforts of the parties participating in its initiatives, and their outstanding contribution to their success, as a result of the concerted and coordinated efforts of everyone.

Director of the Quality Licensing and Market Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Al Bohashem Al Sayed stressed the importance of celebrating the success of the ministrys initiatives to support the prices of consumer goods and red meat during 2022, and the honoring of government and private agencies that play a major role in accomplishing achievements, expressing his pride over the spirit of cooperation and joint and continuous coordination between the Ministry and all concerned authorities in order to meet the various needs of citizens and residents.

He added that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is keen, through the implementation of such initiatives, to protect consumer rights and enhance its purchasing power during periods of high demand for basic and consumer food items and commodities, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, pointing to the ministry’s cooperation in this context with the relevant authorities, the concerned government, and a number of representatives of the private sector, including sales outlets in the country, traders and suppliers, to offer discounted commodity initiatives and support the prices of sheep meat during this month, and support the prices of sacrifices for the year 2022.

In this regard, he pointed out to the success of the Ministry’s initiative to increase the number of materials and goods included in the list by 23 percent, compared to last year, to include more than 800 goods of various food and consumer goods, which contributed to reducing the rate of consumer spending on basic necessities by 14 percent.

The initiative to support sheep meat prices also encouraged local production and supported farm owners, by directing support to about 30,000 heads of sheep during the month of Ramadan, and about 12,500 heads of sacrifice, and the entire quantity was sold, in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company.

Concluding. Al Bohashem stressed that work will continue in cooperation with various concerned authorities and institutions to enhance price stability in local markets, strike a balance between supply and demand, protect competition and prevent monopolistic practices, according to a clear and integrated strategy. The honoring ceremony included a video presentation of the nature of the ministry’s initiatives, and its objectives to support the prices of consumer goods and red meat for the current year.

The Ministry’s initiatives to support the prices of consumer goods and red meat for the current year contributed to the stability of the prices of basic consumer goods during the holy month, and the sale of the full amount of red meat during the blessed Eid al-Adha, in addition to the increase in local production in the number of sheep supplied for this year. About 26,300 thousand heads of local sheep were provided during Ramadan.

The number of imported sheep reached about 3,700 thousand heads, and 9,000 heads of local sheep were provided during Eid al-Adha, while the number of imported sheep reached 3,500 thousand heads of sheep. (QNA)
