Doha, October 24 (QNA) – The General Directorate of Traffic organized a panel discussion entitled “Safe Camping Season”, with the participation of a number of relevant authorities, as part of its awareness plan aimed at reducing the number of violations and reducing traffic accidents during the winter camping season (2022-2023). 

The seminar was attended by Brigadier General Muhammad Abdul Rahim Marafieh, Director of the Traffic Safety Department, a number of officers of the departments affiliated with the General Directorate of Traffic, a number of employees of the participating agencies, and secondary school students.

At the beginning of the seminar, the Director of the Traffic Awareness Department of the General Directorate of Traffic Brigadier Mohammed Radi Al Hajri, explained that the goal of all the awareness activities that the Department has included in its awareness plan for the camping season lies in achieving road safety and security, and reducing the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents.

He pointed out that the awareness campaign organized by the department targets all camping area-goers, drivers participating in the events, as well as visitors and tourists, with a focus on the youth category, while the campaign includes weekly field visits to identify violations and dangerous traffic behaviors.

He noted the importance of adhering to the traffic safety requirements that the vehicle driver must follow in the wilderness areas, including using the seat belt, and the need to avoid wrong traffic behaviors, foremost of which is excessive speed, reckless driving, and others.

The Director of the Community Police Department Brigadier Dr Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Samih, said that the campaign implemented by the department during the camping season comes within the framework of strengthening the relationship with the community, adding that the department is keen to organize awareness visits to camping areas, with the aim of highlighting the social responsibility in achieving safety and security.

He pointed out that the campaign targets camp owners in various camping areas in the country, by providing awareness doses, and introducing the necessary instructions and advice to achieve safety and security during the camping period, pointing out that it will continue until the end of the camping season.

The Assistant Director of the Patrols and Traffic Investigation Department Colonel Jassim Nasser Al Hamidi, confirmed that all preparations for the camping season have been completed, as an executive plan has been developed to secure traffic in the camping areas, by intensifying traffic patrols, and preparing patrols to monitor external roads, and the entrances and exits of camping areas, indicating that General Directorate of Traffic has carried out a number of technical measures, which will raise the level of traffic safety in the areas of Sealine and Al Udeid.

For his part, the Head of the Preventive Education Department at the General Directorate of Civil Defense Lt. Col. Jaber Muhammad Al-Marri, said that the Department organizes awareness visits to the camps in order to raise the level of safety, by introducing them to the types of fire extinguishers and the mechanism of their use in different types of fires.

The Officer of the traffic communication and media office First Lieutenant Fahd Mubarak Sherida, had explained at the beginning of the discussion that the seminar was organized by the Traffic Awareness Department as part of its awareness plan aimed at reducing the number of violations and reducing traffic accidents during the current winter camping season, in addition to introducing the campers to the controls, procedures and safety requirements in the camping areas, by hosting a number of representatives of the state authorities related to the camping season.
