Amman, October 30 (QNA) – The Seventh International Investment Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency kicked off Sunday in Amman, Jordan, with the participation of the State of Qatar.
The 3-day forum will discuss strategic topics in many fields related to renewable energy technology, innovation in agriculture, smart cities, green hydrogen and sustainability issues, with the participation of many government and private entities, universities and relevant research centers.
HE Chairman of Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) and Chairman of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) Eng. Issa bin Hilal Al Kuwari said, in his opening speech to the forum, that providing the necessary infrastructure and achieving electrical interconnection between Arab countries is one of the most prominent challenges facing energy transition and sustainable development in the Arab world, pointing out that this is part of the Arab economic integration project that serves Arab societies and governments as a whole.
In a related context, Al Kuwari noted the importance of encouraging young people in Arab societies to scientific research, innovation and creative thinking, calling for the need to provide the necessary support to research centers and universities and support initiatives to embrace creative people to continue their journey and develop their works and ideas.
Al Kuwari added that the State of Qatar carries the honor of assigning it to the AREC’s chairmanship with pride and responsibility, stressing Qatar’s keenness to continue to exert all possible efforts to follow the path of excellence and brilliance at the AREC.
He stressed that Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which will be the first carbon-neutral World Cup in history, represents a major achievement that highlights the importance and centrality of sustainability issues in Qatar and the Arab region.
On the sidelines of the opening of the forum, HE Issa Al Kuwari honored the AREC’s supporters and the owners of initiatives in renewable energy.
For their part, the forum participants praised the great leading role played by the State of Qatar, which holds the AREC’s chairmanship, as a global example in sustainable development policies, especially with regard to its ambitious initiative to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050, through the giant projects being implemented in the country in relation to renewable energy, the latest of which was the opening of Al Kharsaah solar power plant with a capacity of 800 MW, and various initiatives and projects adopted by the State of Qatar related to energy efficiency, smart cities and infrastructure support related to electric cars and others.
The forum includes workshops for artificial intelligence and a workshop for energy storage, sustainable development and agricultural innovations in the Arab world, organized by the AREC, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development in the kingdom of Morocco and the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA).
