Algiers, November 01 (QNA) – Head of Algeria’s National Syndicate of Public Health Practitioners Dr. Lyes Merabet affirmed that laying the foundation of the Algerian-Qatari-German Hospital in Algiers enhances Qatari-Algerian cooperation in the medical field, describing this cooperation as a launch for a strategic partnership in the field of health.
In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Murabet underscored the belief of doctors and practitioners who work in the health sector, that the hospital will create areas for cooperation between the two countries in the health field, noting that the hospital will guarantee the provision of new expertise to the health system and will contribute to the creation of Algerian medical competencies.
The hospital will allow doctors and practitioners to reduce the cost of transferring patients abroad by providing treatment and medical services for difficult cases inside the hospital, he added.
Dr. Murabet explained that the health system in Algeria has known reforms and development for more than 15 years, and the current stage, which Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has personally taken an interest in, is witnessing the consolidation and development of what has been achieved in the health field.
The opening of the hospital will also contribute to the promotion of medical scientific research in Algeria through the formation and rehabilitation of medical staff, he pointed out, adding that such advanced projects in terms of exchanging experiences and field dealing with patients in difficult and rare cases will give Algerian medical competencies an opportunity to develop and gain experience
He also pointed out that, according to official statistics from the Algerian Ministry of Health, about 250 to 300 patients in severe cases are referred abroad to receive treatment annually.
In this regard, he pointed out that the Algerian hospital will provide 400 beds, which is a sufficient number as a qualitative specialized hospital, which is why Algerian citizens will not need to travel to receive treatment abroad thanks to the presence of this hospital.
Head of Algeria’s National Syndicate for Public Health Practitioners Dr. Ilyas Murabet considered this hospital as a good opportunity for the return of some of the Algerian medical competencies from abroad to work inside the hospital because of the modern medical devices it possesses, the complete digitization of its medical and administrative system, and competencies in all its aspects.
He indicated that the Algerian-Qatari-German Hospital has the potential to open horizons for his country to promote medical tourism from the neighboring African countries of Algeria, due to the advanced capabilities that the hospital has.
Dr. Murabet concluded his interview with QNA by commending Aspetar Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, highlighting its global reputation at the level of sports medicine and orthopedics, adding that it outperforms many world-renowned hospitals.
In a cabinet meeting in late October, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune confirmed that the aim of establishing this medical facility is to take care of many medical cases and surgeries, especially the intractable ones, which required abroad treatments.
During the visit of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Doha in February, an agreement has been made to build a modern hospital, with an Algerian-Qatari-German partnership. At the end of February, Tebboune assigned the government to establish a follow-up committee for the implementation of the project and the rest of the major Qatari investment projects, which seeks to remove administrative obstacles and provide an atmosphere for the implementation of the investment projects that were agreed upon during the visit.
On Oct. 5, an MoU has been officially signed by Algerian Directorate of Health and Population and Elegancia Healthcare company, to establish the Qatari-Algerian-German Hospital, with a 400-bed capacity, which meets international standards in the field of hospital engineering and modern management, and is bound to take the pressure off the rest of the hospitals in the Algerian capital.
Algerian Minister of Health Abdelhak Saihi said that this project reflects the depth of relations and the level of cooperation between the two countries, and the aspiration to develop the level of health services provided to citizens. (QNA)
