Doha, November 01 (QNA) – HE Minister of Municipality Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, confirmed today that the green area in the State of Qatar has increased 10 times since 2010 until now, through the expansion of the establishment of parks, and green spaces.
In a press statement on the sidelines of the inauguration of Umm Al Seneem Park in Al Rayyan city, HE said that this opening is part of the ministry’s initiatives to improve the quality of life, expanding the green area, beautifying cities, creating an outlet for parents and residents, spaces for children, and practicing sports.
HE highlighted that Umm Al Seneem Park, like most state parks, is equipped with the highest specifications, whether children’s play areas or air-conditioned pedestrian paths, it has the highest degree of sustainability, such as the design that controls the regeneration of the air, the use of solar energy, and attention to the planting and quality of trees; due to its great environmental role, praising the continuous efforts of the Parks Department and the Public Works Authority “Ashghal” in completing this park and other parks expected to open in the near future.
In turn, the Director of the Public Parks Department, Mohammed Ali Al Khori, confirmed that the opening of Umm Al Seneem Park comes within the framework of the great interest the ministry attaches to the establishment and development of parks and public parks with the latest international standards, to be a healthy, recreational and sports outlet for families in various regions in all municipalities, as this distinctive park represents an important addition to the recreational facilities in the State of Qatar, and contributes to enhancing the services provided by the Ministry of Municipality to the public.
Al Khori pointed to the development of the number of public parks in the State of Qatar, as their number increased from (56) parks in 2010, to 143 parks in 2022, with an increase of (164%), the per capita share of green space increased from (1) square meters in 2010 to (16.2) square meters in 2022, with a 16-fold increase, while the total number of trees that have been planted at the state level within the initiative to plant one million trees, so far, one million and 193 thousand and 665 trees.
For his part, Chairman of the Supervising Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, Eng. Mohammed Arqoub Al Khaldi, considered Umm Al Seneem Park an additional step in the committee’s path to contribute to achieving the environmental sustainability strategy, giving citizens and residents a modern and quiet lifestyle near green spaces and parks, providing a healthy outlet for them, and contributing to an aesthetic appearance of residential areas, this is within the framework of the integrated role of parks with their environmental, aesthetic, social, cultural and recreational objectives, especially since the park serves the residents of many areas, and includes a variety of services that meet the aspirations of visitors of all age groups.
