Doha, November 03 (QNA) -The Museum of Islamic Art received the globally recognized Carbon Neutral Certification as the first museum in Asia, Middle East and North Africa to achieve carbon neutral after fulfilling the goals of the reduction of emissions in alignment with the National Climate Change Action Plan 2030.
The Museum of Islamic Art has been subject to a thorough verification processes which with the aim of measuring the greenhouse gases emissions associated with the facility’s operations and services to be further verified.
Director of public utilities department at Qatar Museums Eng. Dhabya Jamal Sayar said that climate change is one of the major challenges facing the world today and its adverse effects evidently emerge worldwide including the State of Qatar, adding that Qatar Museums (QM) as one of the pioneering institutions in Qatar has embarked upon the transformation process to convert its museums into museums with reduced carbon emissions, pointing out that in order to embark on low carbon transformation process, QM has chosen the Museum of Islamic Art to achieve the carbon neutral for its operations and services incorporated into the report of 2021, as QM has determined the carbon-reduced interventions and set a plan for carbon neutral through the assistance offered by Gulf Organization for Research & Development (GORD), indicating that Det Norske Veritas (DNV), which is the sole entity that verifies the carbon neutral, has affirmed the keenness of the Museum of Islamic Art to reduce greenhouse gas emission and awarded it the Carbon Neutral Certification 2021, adding that she is proud to participate in the sustainability journey that has resulted in the Museum of Islamic Art being converted into a first museum in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia that achieves carbon neutral.
For his part, Founder and Chairman of GORD Dr. Yousef Alhorr said that museums are preserving the heritage, culture and sprits of nations since they are considered the warehouses of artifacts, pointing out that the purpose they are striving to achieve is essentially associated with the environmental sustainability that aims to conserve natural resources of the State of Qatar for the generations to come, as the case with the governments and institutions.
