Doha, November 06 (QNA) – Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium stands proudly in Umm Al Afaei one of Qatars most historic cities and home to the famous Al Rayyan SC. It is located right on the edge of the desert, the scene of many Qatari tales that live close to the hearts of the locals a welcoming people who love their football as much as their fascinating past.
It took six years to renovate Al Rayyan Stadium, whose name belongs to one of the oldest Qatari cities. Its facade is decorated with symbols of the Qatari culture.
The stadium, which is the fourth World Cup stadium in Qatar 2022, ready from scratch, tells the story of the people of Qatar and their history through seven heritage inscriptions combined from all regions, to form a unified facade of the stadium, and these inscriptions were derived from the various stages of development and transformation of the Qatari architecture, and gathered together in a modern framework that brings together Qatars rich history of its present and future.
The most important feature of this sports edifice, which was inaugurated in the Amir Cup 2020 final between Al Sadd and Al Arabi, is its close association with Qatari culture. Its design embodies the authenticity of heritage and the environment while its geometric shapes and exquisite decorations reflect the features and lifestyle of Qatar. They are all combined to form a shield the symbolizes unity, strength, and interdependence of the Qatari people.
The importance of the sand dune-like design of the stadium, which has 3 prestigious certificates in sustainability design, construction, construction management and energy efficiency, from the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), is that it is an architectural masterpiece that will become a landmark symbolizing the Qatari culture, heritage and traditions, with all its beauty and impartiality, combining the image of the past with the promise of a bright future.
The distinctive geometric shapes in the design of the stadium, which will be the ideal home for Al Rayyan Club after the tournament, depicts the beauty of the desert, the local flora and fauna, as well as local and international trade.
The external facade of Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium symbolizes the Qatari culture, while the facilities surrounding the stadium reflect the nature of Qatars beautiful desert.
More than 80% of the building materials were reused from the original stadium in the location. The trees surrounding the old stadium have been carefully preserved. When visiting the stadium, fans will use the new, eco-friendly Doha Metro system, thus providing a completely sustainable experience.
Al Rayyan area is known for its adherence to history and culture, and its people supports their club, Al Rayyan Sports Club, which is considered one of the most popular football clubs in Qatar. The residents of Al Rayyan area are loyal to their club, which will have a new stadium that can accommodate up to 40,000 fans during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Ahmad bin Ali Stadium will host 7 World Cup match, six group matches and one round of-16 match.
As in the Al Rayyan area, which is keen to preserve the nature and the resources, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy has also been keen to use building materials and adopt environmentally friendly practices in the construction of the new Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
Sustainability criteria were considered when designing the components of the area surrounding the stadium. After the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 ends, the stadium’s capacity of 40,000 seats will be halved. The other half of the seats will be dismantled and granted to football development projects around the world. The stadium, in its new size after the tournament, will enable the people of Al Rayyan to maintain the friendliness and familiarity character of their area.
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium is adjacent to the Mall of Qatar and within walking distance of Riffa Station on the Green Line of the Doha Metro. Its facade is the most striking feature, as it reflects different aspects of Qatar’s personality and symbolizes the importance of family, the pure beauty of the desert and its rich wildlife, in addition to local and international trade. All these symbols form a pentagonal shield, which symbolizes the strength and unity of Al Rayyan city.
The most characteristic element of the stadium is the illuminated facade with an area of 39,000 square meters, which consists of multimedia screens covered by a translucent metal screen. The appearance of the facade refers to the values of Qatar, as well as elements typical for the landscape of this country. The pattern is thicker around the base and becomes more ephemeral at the top.
The venue uses environmentally friendly cooling (DC) technology via a central station with a cooling capacity of 16,000 tones. The station supplies chilled water to the stadium through the power station and from there to the large number of air treatment units deployed on the site to provide the required temperature for the stand and pitch area. At the same time, the building is 20% more energy-efficient compared to other ones of this type, and it also uses 20% less water.
The facade of Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium consists of engravings of seven different symbols, namely: the shield of Rayyan, the palm tree, the sand flower, the chain, the banana swirl, the heart of the walnut, and the brides ring. The heart of the family and her essential role in society.
As for the inscription of the Rayyan Shield, which links the other six inscriptions to each other in a coherent fabric, it represents the values of loyalty, unity and determination. The second and third engravings reflect the components of the Qatari environment, from the palm trees that characterize the desert oases, to the sand flower, which symbolizes the plants that decorate the vast expanses of sand.
Qatars dynamic and rapidly developing character and its national vision for a prosperous nation are evident in Qatar National Vision 2030 through the fourth and fifth inscriptions of the chain and the banana swirl, which are inspired by the trade on which the Qatari economy has been based for centuries. The sixth inscription, the heart of walnut, is a popular symbol of the market, and reflects the healthy lifestyle that the stadium facilities offer to the residents of Al Rayyan. (QNA)
