Doha, November 09 (QNA) – Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality organized today a workshop on controls over the use of plastic bags, based on the decision of HE the Minister of Municipality No. 143 of 2022, which prohibits institutions, companies and shopping malls from using single-use plastic bags in the packaging of products and goods of various types, packaging, presenting, trading, carrying or transporting, starting from Nov. 15.
The workshop, organized by the Health Control Section in the municipality, was attended by a number of officials of food establishments and food production companies located within the municipality, during which a demonstration was made on the environmental damage caused by the use of single-use plastic bags, and presented the available alternatives as stipulated by the ministerial decision.
During the workshop, experiences of other countries that have banned the use of these bags and the impact on the development of the environmental situation in them were also presented.
The attendees stressed the importance of this decision in reducing the environmental pollution resulting from the use of these bags, highlighting that many institutions have replaced these bags with biodegradable and multi-use ones, to achieve sustainability within the Qatar Vision 2030. (QNA)
