Doha, November 09 (QNA) – Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q ), a Qatar Foundation partner university, held a scientific seminar on the occasion of the launch of the Human Development Report 2021-2022 issued by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNDP, the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA), GU-Q and Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) discussed the results of the report, which reported that there was a backward decline involving more than 90 percent of countries in the field of human development.

The Human Development Index in Qatar showed that there has been a marginal improvement, despite the challenges witnessed by Qatar, to get the 42nd place out of 191 countries and regions, noting that the report summarizes the three basic dimensions of human development related to long life, access to knowledge sources, and a decent standard of living.

For his part, HE PSA’s President Dr. Saleh bin Mohammed Al Nabit underlined the links between the results of the report and the 3rd National Development Strategy of the State of Qatar, currently being prepared, stressing the importance of strengthening joint action at the national, regional and international levels, in light of Qatar’s commitment to international cooperation in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

For his part, GU-Q’s dean Dr. Safwan Masri underscored that education is an important resource for societies facing uncertainty, especially that the commitment to lifelong learning leads to improved living standards through new knowledge and skills that help alleviate unemployment and reduce poverty rates.
