Doha, November 09 (QNA) – The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), represented by the Department of National Cyber Excellence, in cooperation with the Programs and Activities at the Schools Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, organized an awareness workshop for parents and students entitled “protecting and educating children about the dangers of the Internet.”
The workshop included presentations of programs to teach children the basics of internet safety in an interesting way, and the Family Protection Program, which allows parents to check children’s security on the internet.
Head of the National Cyber Excellence Department of NCSA Dalal Al Aqidi stressed the NCSA’s keenness to enhance its presence in the school community and target students, their families and educators with cyber awareness and the challenges of the digital world. She encouraged them to use the internet positively and safely and educated teachers and parents about ways to confront these challenges to achieve digital safety for their children to lead them towards a secure information culture.
Head of the Programs and Activities Department at the Schools Affairs Department in the Education Sector, Fatima Yousef Al Obaidli hailed the efforts of the NCSA and Microsoft, which carried out the workshop, to raise public awareness and educate parents in the areas of security, auditing and governance of information systems in protecting and educating children about the dangers of the internet, and expand their perceptions in dealing with contemporary digital media.
Al Obaidli stressed the importance of the workshops organized by the agency to raise awareness of the dangers of cybersecurity and its repercussions on economies and school community members.
She said that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education is keen to educate its affiliates, students and their parents to protect against cyber-attacks that increased in the past few years, indicating that this awareness and services provided by the Ministry and its partners contributed to maintaining the privacy and security of students’ privacy and data, and boosted the students’ abilities to manage internet risks and potential intrusions with a high degree of reliability.
She added that the awareness workshop dealt with an introduction to the field of cybersecurity and its importance, and provided some guiding advice to protect personal data and information, noting that the participants were introduced to the importance of cybersecurity for the state and its various agencies and the NCSA’s national efforts to develop it and motivate students interested in the field.
