Doha, November 14 (QNA) – An artwork by South Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa, titled “Come Together”, has been recently added to public art collection at the Educational City as part of the celebration of the national efforts to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Designed under directives of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, the 12-metre high colorful artwork is made up of workers helmets, mirror balls, and traditional Qatari objects.
The art piece is composed of a base ball from which about 100 pieces of helmets and soccer balls, bright oval shapes, and kitchen utensils branch out . Each set was fastened with an inner stainless steel shaft.
Su Choi, who supervised the new installation, said that the materials used in the artwork come from a variety of sources, with some balls made of reflective chrome and car paint spray and others made of plastic hexagons, she said.
The aluminum-made caps and food containers were brought from abroad, and the kitchen utensils were inspired by local kitchens in Qatar, Su Choi added.
She added that the new installation was designed to withstand forms of severe weather like heat, sand storms and rain, noting that each part was made to last as long as possible.
