Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt), November 14 (QNA) – The Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) is among the leading organizations from Qatar joining the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UNFCCC taking place until Nov. 18, 2022, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Representing its centers of excellence, a multidisciplinary delegation from GORD is participating at the event with technical presentations, seminars and panel discussions.
A key focus of GORD’s participation at COP27 involves the showcasing and expansion of sustainable innovations incubated by the organization in areas related to energy efficiency and green building materials. During the event sustainability experts from GORD provided live demonstrations of innovative solutions offered by GORD as part of its energy efficiency ecosystem.
Speaking about the organization’s participation at the global climate event, Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, said, “Over the years, GORD has made solid contributions towards sustainable development.
These include the development of low-carbon building materials, energy-efficient hybrid cooling solutions, a unique performance-based green building system, and a carbon market supporting GHG reduction programs. We are here at COP27 to offer these forward-looking solutions to the world. We are here to build momentum towards green transformation and climate resilience.”
A part of exhibits displayed at GORD Pavilion during COP27 was a 3D model of Synergia7n1 – GORD’s hybrid ultra-efficient, patented cooling system for indoor and outdoor spaces.
The product and its live demonstration during COP27 attracted energy experts’ interest in learning more about the innovative ultra-efficient, multi-mode fresh air-handling unit developed by GORD.
The model provided a visual representation of how the three well-known technologies for cooling, including the desiccant dehumidification, indirect evaporative cooling and the vapor compression cycle, in addition to various energy harvesting techniques were integrated in a synergetic manner to outperform the conventional cooling systems available in the market in terms of efficiency and energy saving up to 50 percent. Various contractors, consulting firms and manufacturers indicated their interest in adopting the technology as manufacturers, integrators or implementers.
In addition, the Energia Suite – which is developed by GORD as an alternative for highly sophisticated and costly dynamic simulation modeling tools currently available in the market for assessing the energy performance of all types of buildings – was applauded by practitioners in the energy field who appreciated its applicability for the global market due to Energia’s ability for customization to suit various climate zones in the world and its user-friendly interface and calculation approach.
Another GORD innovation highlighted at the event was Arcadia Suite – a unique computational tool that measures the efficiency of district cooling or heating centers supplying the needed energy for mega developments such as shopping malls, hospitals, multi high-rise complexes or mixed-use neighborhoods which are usually characterized as energy-intensive projects.
With a number of high-level meetings in the pipeline, GORD’s entities at COP27 are expected to unite efforts that further the organizations mission to craft a green legacy for Qatar and the MENA region. (QNA)
