Mumbai, November 15 (QNA) – Qatar Association of Chartered Accountants obtained today the membership of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) following an unanimous vote at the (IFAC) association’s meeting which is taking place in Mumbai, India.
The Association was granted the membership after a comprehensive assessment of its work and activities during the meeting, which was attended by representatives of many international organizations and bodies.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatari Association of Chartered Accountants Hashim Al Sayed, asserted on this occasion that the Association’s membership in the International Federation adds further responsibilities and duties. It provides it with an opportunity to become an active member supported by its previous achievements during the past years.
He added that, the membership of the International Federation is considered as a qualitative transformation in the Association’s operation and a new testimony to the confidence of regional and international organizations in its activities and its efforts to develop the accounting profession and advance the professional standards of its members and associates.
He indicated that the (IFAC) membership is a result of one of the strategic objectives set by the Association to coordinate with the various related entities and continuing the developments in the accounting field to exchange experiences and access the latest developments in the accounting and auditing field.
It is noteworthy to mention that the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) was founded in 1977 and has 158 members and organizations in 118 countries, representing more than 2.5 million accountants.
The Federation is considered a global organization which sponsors the accounting profession worldwide, and works with its members and associates to protect the public interest through encouraging accountants to follow quality professional best practices.
It also develops international ethics, codes of conduct standards, professional auditing, education and accounting standards for public sector accounting. It issues guidance documents to support professional accountants and staffs working in small and medium-sized offices and accountants working in commercial sectors and developing countries. (QNA)
