Doha, November 15 (QNA) – Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari inaugurated today “Goooal! How Football Kicked off in Qatar” exhibition. It is set to run until the end of February 2023.
President of the Qatar Press Center Saad Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Executive Director of Qatar National Library and the local football ambassadors of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Tan Huism, in addition to a host of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 ambassadors from Qatari football to celebrate the growth and history of football in Qatar as the nation gears up to host the World Cup.
Commenting on the occasion Dr. Al Kuwari said: “This exhibition adds momentum to the great football celebration that our country and the world is witnessing, and this important global event serves as a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and understanding between people from around the world.
“Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup is a perfect example of the country’s belief in sport as an influential soft power within cultural diplomacy that will strengthen our ties with all countries of the world. The opening of the exhibition today is of great importance as it showcases the rich cultural and documentary material of football in Qatar for World Cup fans and the community to see,” he added.
He told Qatar News Agency that it was more important now than ever for the library to document the history of football in the country, given the advances made in the field. He stressed that today’s documentation was tomorrow’s history.
For her part, Head of Heritage Collection Aisha Al Ansari said that the exhibition documents the development of football in Qatar since the 1940s to the present day.
For his part, in his remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), President of Qatar Press Center Saad Mohammed Al Rumaihi said that this exhibition brought back sweet memories and sports events that he witnessed back in the 70s, praising the efforts exerted by Qatar National Library in preserving and maintaining this heritage for the coming generations.
For his part, former Qatari footballer Adel Ahmed MalAllah told QNA that Qatar National Library represents a source of pride for every citizen and resident in Qatar and that the exhibition showed unexpected things, calling on sports personnel and sports fans, especially football fans, to visit the exhibition.
HE the Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library had honored a number of former footballers and collectors, including: Capitan Ibrahim Khalfan, Mubarak Mustafa, Adel MalAllah, Ahmed Khalil Al Khaldi, Khalid Salman, Ahmed Al Kuwari, and Majed Al Shugairi. (QNA)
