Doha, November 18 (QNA) – Qatar football legends Ahmad Khalil and Ibrahim Khalfan believe that hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar represents a source of pride for all Arabs.

In their interview with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) website before the kickoff of the tournament on Sunday, Qatar Legacy Ambassadors said that the twelve years of preparations proved that Qatar is capable of overcoming all challenges and preparing for a tournament that will represent a milestone in future mega sports events, which constitutes a source of pride for every Qatari and Arab.

Former Qatari goalkeeper Ahmad Khalil expressed his hope that Qatar national team “Al Annabi” would show a performance that perfectly represents Qatar’s image, especially since they are the 2019 AFC Asian Cup champions, in addition to their strong participation in Copa America, Concacaf Gold Cup, and the European qualifiers for the World Cup.

For his part, former Qatari football player Ibrahim Khalfan believes that Qatar national team will make it to the knock out stage, stressing the importance of the first match against Ecuador describing it as an uneasy team. He said: “With all due respect to Ecuador, I believe we will beat them and that will put us in a great position to make it to the second round. Ecuador have a strong team but we are capable of beating them.”
Ibrahim nominated Argentina, Brazil, Germany, and France to win this World Cup title, believing that Brazil’s preparations for this World Cup edition give it the lion’s share of nominations to win the first World Cup in the Arab region.

Ibrahim Khalfan agreed with Ahmad Khalil that Serbia would be the dark horse in this World Cup edition. They expected great performances from Ronaldo and Messi, given that FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 might be their last World Cup, which motivates them to show their maximum talent. (QNA)
