Doha, November 19 (QNA) – Since Qatar won the bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2022, the Ministry of Municipality has contributed to the success of this significant global event by implementing various projects, initiatives, and services that support the tournament.

In cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), the Ministry of Municipality has prepared general plans related to the Ministrys role in the activities of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, among which is the provision of 110 specialized equipment, 6,295 different types and sizes of plastic containers, 311 vehicles (cars and equipment), and 1,676 temporary and permanent workers. In addition, the Ministry of municipality equipped and provided three mobile emergency waste disposal stations for waste collection around the eight World Cup stadiums for general cleaning and recycling services.

During the World Cup activities, the Ministry of Municipality will apply a waste sorting system in containers designated for recyclable materials as part of the integrated waste sorting program implemented by the ministry. During the tournament, the Waste Transfer Stations technology will be applied, as each stations capacity is 20 tons, and the number of stations prepared for the World Cup is four fixed and three mobile transfer stations.

The Ministry of Municipality confirmed the preparedness of Mesaieed Waste Treatment Centre, the biggest in the Middle East with the capacity of 2,300 tons of waste to be treated daily, to receive all waste during the FIFA World Cup.

Through this integrated waste management system, the State of Qatar represented by the Ministry of Municipality aims to recycle 60% of the waste and convert the remaining 40% into electric energy, making this World Cup edition a role model and environmentally friendly.

On the side of public parks and green spaces, the ministry has completed the implementation and delivery of East Ras Abu Aboud Park, Umm Al Seneem Park, Panda Park, Rawdat Al Khail Park, and Al Khor Park. Meanwhile, work is in progress to complete the Dahl Al Hamam Park, Barzan Olympic Park, and Al Wakrah Park, and approaching the completion of planting one million trees in cooperation with several governmental authorities and civil society.

Recent years have witnessed a significant leap in the number of public parks in the State of Qatar, as the number increased to 148 parks in 2022 compared to 56 parks in 2010, comprising an increase of 164 percent.

The Ministry of Municipality was concerned with developing and restoring eight beaches within the first phase, which includes 18 beaches. These beaches are Safa Al Touq, Al Ferkiah, Simaisma, Al Ghariya, Sealine, Al Wakra Family Beach, Al Wakra Open Beach, and Al Kharaij.

Public facilities and kiosks have also been activated to serve the World Cup period, as 85 kiosks and 370 units of temporary bathrooms have been installed.

As for beautification works, the ministry has maintained 300 buildings, demolished 287 properties, and added beautification works to approximately 23km of buildings’ front sides.

The Ministry of Municipality cooperated and coordinated with the states concerned authorities to overcome difficulties and speed up the procedures of issuing Building Completion Certificates for hotel and residential projects submitted by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and The Civil Service and Governmental Development Bureau. The number of these buildings exceeded 200 between hotel buildings, residential buildings, and residential complexes.

In the field of food safety control, the Ministry of Municipality represented by concerned authorities at all municipalities and the inspection team that oversees food safety during the World Cup supervise all food served in all stadiums, event and festival areas in the external domain of the stadiums, training sites for the participating teams, the main media center (Qatar Convention Centre), fans gathering areas, in addition to about 20,000 food establishments across the country, and food suppliers for all locations.
