Doha, November 22 (QNA) – Saudi Arabia made history Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Argentina at Lusail Stadium in their Group C opener in the ongoing FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Motivated by heavy fan support, Saudi Arabia made a stunning comeback against Argentina with two goals from Saleh Al Shehri and Salem Al Dawsari after Lionel Messi gave Argentina the lead in the 10th minute from the spot.
This win makes Saudi Arabia a boost before clashing with Mexico and Poland, while the pre-tournament clear favorite Argentina’s way to the knock-out stage remains at stake.
Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after consulting the VAR. Then, in the one-sided first half, Argentina scored twice but they were chalked off after checking the VAR.
Saleh Al Shehri put the equalizer for Saudi in the 48th minute before a stunning solo effort from Salem Al Dawsari secured a 2-1 victory over Argentina, giving one of the greatest-ever World Cup upsets.
