Doha, November 23 (QNA) – Saudi left-back Yasser Al-Shahrani underwent medical examinations in Hamad Medical City after suffering a severe head injury during the Saudi National Team’s historic 2-1 victory over Argentina on Tuesday at the start of their campaign in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Saudi Arabian Football Federation said in a statement that Al-Shahrani was subjected to a strong hit to the head, chest and abdomen. He conducted all the necessary medical examinations and will be under observation, the Saudi Federation explained, adding that the left-back is stable.
Al-Shahrani was injured following a collision with fellow keeper Mohammed Al-Owais in the stoppage time of the second half at Lusail Stadium, which witnessed an attendance of more than 88,000 spectators.
The 30 year old Al-Hilal player gave an outstanding performance with his teammates. They succeeded in turning the result in their favor in the second half after the early goal of Lionel Messi. The historic victory, the first for an Asian team over Argentina in the World Cup, was secured thanks to the goals of Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari. (QNA)
