Doha, November 24 (QNA) – Switzerland snatched a 1-0 victory over Cameroon at Al Janoub Stadium on Thursday, in the first Group G game of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, placing the Swiss team at the top of the group that includes Brazil and Serbia, who will play later at Lusail Stadium today, while the Cameroonian team remained without points.
Swiss player Breel Embolo scored the goal in the 48th minute after a perfect pass from Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Cameroonian side started the match strongly, but the Swiss defense and goalkeeper managed to thwart these attacks. Switzerland dominated after the break, and managed to take the lead and dominate the match from then on.
Prior to the start of the match, former Cameroonian football star Roger Milla was honored by receiving a certificate of appreciation from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, in the presence of President of the Confederation of African Football Patrice Motsepe, and President of the Cameroon Football Association Samuel Eto’o.
