Doha, November 25 (QNA) – The Qatari national team lost to its Senegalese counterpart, 3-1, in the match played today at Al-Thumama Stadium in the second round of Group A competitions for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Qatar are rooted to the bottom of Group A with one game to play and will be the first team eliminated from the tournament if the Netherlands avoid defeat against Ecuador later on Friday.

In first half, minute 33, Qatar penalty appeals ignored after Akram Afif bundled over by Ismaila Sarr.

Boulaye Dia, after some moments, rifled Senegal in front after Boualem Khoukhis defensive error, eight minutes later, Famara Diedhious stooping near-post header doubled Senegal lead.

In the second half, Almoez Ali registers Qatars first shot on target at World Cup but Edouard Mendy saves. 78 minutes, Mohammed Muntari pulled goal back with Qatars first-ever World Cup goal.

84 minutes, Ahmadou Dieng restored Senegals lead.

After a World Cup debut to forget against Ecuador, Qatar’s improvement against Senegal was visible, though they lacked attacking threat in a one-sided first half.

In the final Group A games, Qatar face the Netherlands and Ecuador take on Senegal on Tuesday. (QNA)
