Doha, November 26 (QNA) – Poland defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 in the Group C match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Education City Stadium on Saturday.
Despite Saudi dominance in the first half, Piotr Zielinski put Poland ahead in the 39th minute.
In the 41st minute, the referee was instructed to look at the VAR monitor and awarded a penalty for Saudi Arabia, but Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny saved Salem Al Dawsari’s shot to save Poland’s lead.
In the second half, Saudi team controlled the game and pushed for leveling the game but missed all their chances.
Saudi defender Abdulelah Al Malki slipped to allow Lewandowski to score Poland’s second goal in the 82nd minute to secure the victory and the three points.
Poland raised their tally to four points on top of Group C, followed by Saudi Arabia with three, then Mexico with one point, and Argentina in the fourth spot.
Later tonight, Mexico will take on Argentina at Lusail Stadium. (QNA)
