Doha, November 27 (QNA) – A seminar discussing efforts for preserving heritage was held at Darb Al Saai this evening as part of the cultural program accompanying the celebrations of Qatar National Day 2022.
Moderated by media figure Ahmed Al Saadi, the seminar hosted folklore researcher Khalifa Al Sayed Al Malki, writer and media figure Khalid Al Ziyara, researcher in the Heritage and Identity Department at the Ministry of Culture Saleh Gharib.
The participants valued the role of the Ministry of Culture and state institutions in preserving and documenting the heritage in an effort to instill the national identity and emphasize the authenticity of this heritage.
Khalifa Al Maliki highlighted the significant role carried out by various institutions in the State of Qatar in preserving the local heritage, pointing to some achievements in this regard, most importantly registering the Zubarah site on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Al Maliki noted the need to double the efforts of preserving the heritage and instilling it in the young generation. He valued the choice of the current site for Darb Al Saai, and stressed the great importance of Darb Al Saai activities which recall the ancient Qatari history and heritage.
For his part, Saleh Gharib highlighted the efforts of the Folklore Center in documenting the heritage, as well the efforts of the Ministry of Culture in collecting heritage and consolidating the national identity in the society.
He also noted the importance of historical series and theater in preserving heritage; stressing that the Qatari art is rich in radio, television and theatrical works that employed the local heritage in pioneering works and highlighted the authentic Qatari heritage.
Khalid Al Ziyara discussed the role of individuals in preserving heritage. He noted the great keenness of all members of society to preserve heritage with the aim of promoting their national identity and affirm the authenticity of their history. He said that Qatar has become a source of inspiration thanks to its rich heritage and long-rooted history.
The activities of Darb Al Saai to celebrate Qatar National Day will continue until December 18 at its permanent headquarters in Umm Salal Mohammed area. Qatar National Day falls on December 18 of each year. The celebration is held this year under the slogan “Our Unity Source of Our Strength”. (QNA)
