Doha, November 28 (QNA) – Al Bidda event in Darb Al Saai embodies the marine heritage environment and includes the Majlis, Bait Al Mutawa (house of religious scholar), the traditional Cafe, Majlis Al Nokhatha (house of dhow captain), Al Nahham, and Akkas Al Freej (the neighborhood photographer), as well as the traditional folk games and cultural competitions, such as cultural contests, where the event witnesses a substantial number of visitors from the masses, because the marine heritage is of high importance and value to the people of Qatar.
In his statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Monday, the head of Al Bidda’s event Nasser Al Khelaifi said that the event comprises new things this year to be showcased in Darb Al Saai, the most important of which is the idea of dhow which is a mobile loader in Darb Al Saai on which a range of performances and activities are performed, including two plays and a combination of marine arts, in addition to the oyster splitting competition, where these events are daily offered.
He added that Majlis Al Nokhatha (house of the dhow captain) is the place where people of the sea converge to promote the values and customs, including Raai Al Salifa place (Patron of the stories), the person who arbitrates between people and is also a place for circulating the news whether for the sea and land.
There is also Al Tawash which displays pearls and cloths, along with the maritime Museum, in which fishing tools and methods are displayed, in addition to places for all marine crafts, as well as marine folk teams, and there are also places for popular food, Al Fareej bakery and the shop in which old games are found, and there is also in Al Bidda’s architecture area, which is considered a storehouse for all the people of the sea.
Al Khelaifi indicated that the place is one of the distinguished areas, adding that the event place also embraces the beach area, in which people find the activity of plays, games, competitions and fishing, pointing out that there is a Hadaq competition, which is fishing directly from the lake, and there is an oyster splitting competition, as well as a Dama competition, where incentive prizes were distributed to the winners to urge everyone to participate.
In his closing remark to QNA, Nasser Al Khelaifi outlined that the event is intended to communicate a message to the new generations by saying that this is the heritage and traditions of Qatar’s ancestors which are transmitted and preserved by the generations, and the current generations should do the same to protect them.
