Doha, December 10 (QNA) – Building permits issued during the month of November 2022 decreased to 645 permits or 34%, compared to 972 permits issued in October 2022.

According to the monthly statistics issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority on Saturday, the decrease was noted in the all of the municipalities: Um Slal (56%), Al Da’ayen (49%), Al Wakrah (39%), Al Doha (32%), Al Sheehaniya (23%), Al Rayyan (22%), Al Khor (14%) and finally Al Shammal (11%).

In terms of their geographical distribution, the municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 207 permits (32%) of the total issued permits, while municipality of Al Doha came in second place with 157 permits (24%), followed by Al Wakrah municipality with 112 permits (17%), then municipality of Al Da’ayen with 78 permits (12%). The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Al Khor 30 permits (5%), Umm Slal 28 permits (4%), Al Sheehaniya 17 permits (3%), and finally Al Shammal 16 permits (2%).

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 37% (236 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of November 2022, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 60% (384 permits), and finally fencing permits with 4% (25 permits). By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas top the list, accounting for 87% (138 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by apartments buildings permits by 7% (11 permits) and dwellings of housing loans permits by 5% (8 permits).

Commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 32% (25 permits), followed by governmental buildings with 31% (24 permits), then industrial buildings e.g., workshops/factories with 21% (16 permits).

On the other hand, the data on building completion certificates issued during November 2022 show a general decrease of 0.4%. This decrease was clearly noted in the municipalities of: Al Sheehanyia (60%) and Al Wakrah (31%). On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipality of Al Shammal (50%), Al Da’ayen (19%), Al Doha (18%), Al Rayyan (9%), Al Khor (7%) and Umm Slal (3%).

According to their geographical distribution, Al Da’ayen municipality come at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued were 128 certificates (25%) of the total issued certificates, while municipality of Al Rayyan came in second place with 124 certificates (24%), followed by municipality of Al Doha with 103 certificates (20%), then Al Wakrah municipality with 86 certificates (17%). The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Slal 38 certificates (7%), Al Khor 15 certificates (3%), Al Sheehaniya 10 certificates (2%) and Al Shammal 9 certificates (2%).

In terms of type of certificates issued, data indicates that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitutes 75% (385 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during the month of November 2022, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 25% (128 certificates).

Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.

The release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the Planning and Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Municipality to make use of the existing electronic link between the two sides. (QNA)
