Doha, January 05 (QNA) – The President of Qatar Fencing and Weightlifting Federation Mohammed Yousef Al Mana has been elected president of the Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) for a third term.

He was elected during AWF’s electoral general assembly meeting held on Thursday in Doha on the sidelines of the 9th West Asian Weightlifting Men’s Championships and Qatar 7th cup for men and women.

Al Mana, won the majority of votes in the elections that were held at Radisson Blu Hotel Doha with the participation of 44 members of AWF.

President of International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Mohamed Hassan Jalood congratulated Mohammed Yousef Al Mana for being reelected as president of AWF, noting the significant effort exerted by the State of Qatar in promoting the game, which is demonstrated in the events hosted by Doha, as well as the excellence made by the Asian Weightlifting on the international level.

In a press statement, Jalood said that he is well convinced that Al Mana will make further efforts to develop the Asian Weightlifting during the upcoming period, pointing to the enormous facilitations offered by Doha for the Asian championships it hosts.

He noted the substantial role of Weightlifting in Asia which had won the majority of the continant’s gold medals in the last four Olympic meetings.

President of the Saudi Weightlifting Federation Mohammed Ahmed Alharbi hailed the great efforts made by Mohammed Yousef Al Mana to develop this sport globally, lauding the evolution of the sport in many Asian countries.

Through this new term, Al Mana will seek to develop AWF and upgrade this sport globally, Alharbi said. (QNA)
