Basra, January 08 (QNA) – The competitions of the first round of the ongoing Arabian Gulf Cup (Gulf 25) in the Iraqi city of Basra revealed the aspects of competitions as three teams won their matches and the host country drew with the Omani national team.
In the first round, 7 goals were scored in three games, while the opening match between Iraq and Oman was goalless and ended in a draw.
The title holder Kuwait lost to Qatar 2-0. Yemen lost to Saudi Arabia 2-0, which is the seventh confrontation between the two teams in the history of the tournament, while the UAE lost to Bahrain 2-1.
In addition, Saudi Arabia topped the Group A with 3 points. Oman and Iraq have one point each after they drew with no goals, while Yemen remained without points.
In Group B, Qatar topped with 3 points, with a goal difference from Bahrain, then UAE and Kuwait finished third and fourth places, respectively, without points.
The fan attendance gave momentum to the opener confrontations as the game between Iraq and Oman saw a substantial number of crowds at the stadium with 70,000 spectators followed by Qatar and Kuwait in the second place after the number of fans at Al Mina Olympic Stadium reached 30,000 spectators.
