Doha, January 09 (QNA) – The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) has launched the stage of internal qualifiers at the level of all public and private schools for its 4th reading Olympiad, along with its 4th Arab reading challenge competition that will run until Jan. 29, 2023.

The ministry added that during this stage, students will be interviewed in their school campuses to nominate those who will participate in the second qualifying stage of “Reading” competition which is due to be organized during Feb. 12-19, 2023, at the level of all schools across the State of Qatar.

The Curriculum and Learning Resources Department of Educational Affairs Sector at MEHE had launched the 4th edition of reading Olympiad under the slogan:”A Nation That Reads” last June, in cooperation with Private Education Affairs Sector.

The Olympiad is one of the absolutely critical national events that aim to propagate the culture of reading among students in pursuit of instilling the reading habit in their minds both at public and private schools to serve and develop the community and contribute to Qatar National Vision 2030.

In addition, MEHE has combined reading Olympiad with Arab reading challenge initiative adopted by Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, where 100 students are qualified after competing in these contests.

The reading Olympiad events stem from the vision of MEHE, and in recognition of its belief in the importance of reading to help students acquire reading skills, in addition to preparing a generation that is capable of advancing its homeland, and reacting positively with knowledge and information revolution.

The reading Olympiad includes two events; namely the reading week, which comes to mark the World Book and Copyright Day that will be held this year under the theme of “Reading day” scheduled to kick off on April 10, 2023.
