Basra, January 12 (QNA) – The Iraqi national team qualified for the semi-finals of the Arab Gulf Cup (Gulf 25) after defeating its Yemeni counterpart by five clean goals in the match that took place between them at the Basra International Stadium in the third and last round of the group stage for the group A.
The goals of the match were scored by Mustafa Kadhim in the 40th minute, Amjad Attwan in the 65th minute, Aymen Hussein two goals (74 and 75 from a penalty kick) and Hussein Ali in the 88th minute.
The victory is the second for the Iraqi team after its first victory over Saudi Arabia 2-0 in the last round and it tied negatively with Oman in the first round raising its tally to seven points at the top of Group A.
In the other match of the same group which took place at the same time the Omani team succeeded in defeating its Saudi counterpart with two goals to one, to raise its score to seven points and occupy second place by goal difference from Iraq and qualify for the semi-finals. The Saudi team came in third place with 3 points and the Yemeni team came fourth with no points, the two teams bid farewell to the tournament from the first round.
The third and final matches of the group B will be held at the same time on Thursday as Qatar plays with the UAE and Kuwait faces Bahrain. (QNA)
