Doha, January 13 (QNA) – The Asian qualifiers for the 2023 World Table Tennis Championships Finals (Durban – South Africa), concluded today at Lusail Hall with participation of about 115 male and female players representing 20 countries including 58 players in men’s singles, 50 players in women’s singles, 24 players in men’s doubles, 19 players in women’s doubles, and 20 players in the mixed doubles category.

The Qatari national team participated in the qualifiers with players Ahmed Khalil Al Mohannadi, Mohammed Abdulwahhab, Ahmed Muthanna, Abdullah Abdulwahhab and Maryam Ali.

The final day of the qualifiers witnessed four matches in men’s singles to determine positions from 25 to 32, and one match in women’s singles.

The Qatari team in the doubles category consisting Ahmed Khalil Al Mohannadi and Mohammed Abdulwahhab, has qualified yesterday for the finals of the World Championship after defeating Kazakh’s doubles Iskander Kharki and Aidos Kenzhigulov (4-1), making the Qatari team the only Arab team from the Asian continent to qualify for the 2023 World Table Tennis Championships Finals.

Qatar’s hosting of the Asian qualifiers came within the framework of the Qatar Table Tennis Association’s keenness to organize large events and tournaments on an ongoing basis. (QNA)
