Doha, January 18 (QNA) – The main rounds of the WTT Contender Doha 2023 started today at Lusail Sports Arena as part of the Qatar International Combined Championship until Jan. 21 with the participation of 190 male and female players representing 40 countries.

The round of 32 for men’s and women’s singles and the round of 16 for men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles competitions witnessed strong and exciting matches.

16 matches in the men’s singles and the same for the women’s singles were held today where the winners of which qualified for the round of 16, as for the men’s and women’s doubles competitions eight matches were held in the round of 16 for each, while in the mixed doubles category, eight matches were also held today in the round of 16, from which the winners qualified for the quarterfinals.

The competitions will continue Thursday, and will witness the holding of the round of 16 for the men’s and women’s singles category, the quarter-finals for the men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles, as well as the semi-finals of the mixed doubles.

The Qatar Table Tennis Association hosted from Jan. 7 -13 the Asian qualifiers for the 2023 World Table Tennis Championships Finals hosted by Durban, South Africa on May 2023 with participation of 115 players from 20 countries.

Qatar’s hosting of the Asian qualifiers and international table tennis championships, came within the framework of the Qatar Table Tennis Association’s keenness to organize large events and tournaments on an ongoing basis. (QNA)
