Doha, January 27 (QNA) – Muaither team reached the Round of 16 of HH the Amir Football Cup 2023, following a 5-4 victory on penalties over Mesaimeer after the original time ended in a 2-2 draw. The two teams played today in the preliminary round of the 51st edition of the competition. Muaither and Mesaimeer finished fourth and fifth in the last season of the Second Division League.

Syaffarizal Sumara opened the scoring for Muaither in the 15th minute, but Mesaimeer equalized through Helerson Matheus in the 50th minute.

Muaither advanced again after a solo effort by Nabil Al Zahr in the 64th minute, but Mesaimeer equalized again through a successful penalty kick by Robson da Silva in the 68th minute.

Muaither secured a spot in the Round of 16 which its draw’s date will be announced later. The Round of 16 draw will see the teams divided into two pools, the first of which will consist of the eight teams who finished first to eighth in the last season of the QNB Stars League in 2021-2022. As for the second pool, it will have the teams ranked ninth to 12th in the QNB Stars League last season, the top three ranked teams from last season’s Second Division League, in addition to Muaither which won the preliminary round game today.
