Doha, January 27 (QNA) – Qatar has become one of the top countries in the world rankings of beach volleyball, thanks to the remarkable results made by the national team in the past years by winning several titles and medals in all competitions organized by the game’s International Federation, the most important of which is the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, said President of Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari, who is also the President of West Asian Volleyball Federation.

In an exclusive statement to QNA, Al Kuwari praised the good start of the Qatari team in its participation in the final round of the Beach Pro Tour, which is currently being held at the Aspire Zone beach courts, featuring the world top eight ranking teams among the 20 (10 men and 10 women) teams participating in the tournament.

Qatar hosts many international beach volleyball tournaments Al Kuwari said pointing to the recently-ended King of the Court International Championship; the current Beach Pro Tour and the upcoming inaugural round of the 5-star “Elite16” tours slated for Feb. 1 to 5 at Aspire Zone beach volleyball courts, to add qualifying points for the next Olympic Games, (Paris 2024). QVA will also organize, towards the end of February on the Al Gharafa beach courts, the West Asian Championship, which is the first regional qualifier for Paris 2024, he added.

Al Kuwari said that the QVA would be focusing, in the coming period, on participating in Olympics qualifying tournaments, pointing that the Qatari duo rank second in the latest international game ranking, and won the bronze medal in Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

He stressed the necessity for boards of directors in Qatari clubs to give more attention to beach volleyball, pointing that the game enjoys significant support from Qatar Olympic Committee, and that the QVA seeks to develop it by organizing local and international tournaments and by holding tournaments for all age groups in order to build a team capable of competing strongly in international forums and provide the Qatari national team with talents that could contribute to maintaining the rank it has reached.
