Doha, April 03 (QNA) – The Department of Research and Islamic Studies at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs will hold on Tuesday, the nation’s third cultural symposium on mosques as cultural incubators, as part of its cultural project series and intellectual seminars in the public hall of the building of the General Directorate of Awqaf in Al Waab.

The symposium will discuss the role of mosques as cultural incubators, through three main axes. The first axis deals with the origin and mission of mosques, starting from mosques in the Prophet’s era, passing through mosques throughout history, and ending with mosques in the State of Qatar, past and present.

The second axis addresses the civilized role of mosques’ message through three main dimensions: the cultural dimension (the mosque as a civilized center and a cultural source), the educational dimension (the mosque as an educational institution), and the social dimension (the mosque as a place that gathers neighbors and visitors, and as a media platform to know the news of the people of the region).

The third axis deals with the future and forward-looking vision of the role of mosques, how to revive their message, and re-centralize their role in society.

In a statement, the General Directorate of Awqaf explained that the symposium will host a group of intellectuals and specialists to discuss these topics, including Professor of Fiqh at Qatar University (QU) Dr. Turki Al Marri, Professor of Interpretation and Quranic Sciences at QU Dr. Abdul Salam Al Majidi, and other intellectuals in the field.
