Canberra, January 04 (QNA) – Spanish Rafa Nadal progressed to the quarter-finals at the Brisbane International (250 ranking points) on Thursday, following his easy win 6-1 6-2 over Australian wild card Jason Kuebler .

After almost a year layoff, Nadal marked his return with two consecutive wins, the first against Austrian Dominic Thiem in the first round.

The Spanish Matador will compete in the quarter-finals with another Australian, Jordan Thompson, who reached this round after his French competitor, Ugo Humbert, withdrew before the match due to health issues.

In the most exciting matches, Australian Rinky Hijikata, a wild card participant, overturned his deficit in the first set against Czech Tomas Machach to a well-deserved victory, 5-7, 6-2 and 7-6. Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov also defeated German Daniel Altmaier, 6-1 and 6-2.
