London, September 27 (QNA) – Britain announced the adoption of coins, banknotes and stamps bearing the image of King Charles III.

According to a statement issued by Buckingham Palace, coins, banknotes and stamps will bear the image of the new monarch, confirming that his royal cypher will also appear on government buildings soon.

Buckingham Palace clarified that the process of introducing the new change would be gradual and that coins bearing the image of King Charles and his mother would be in circulation simultaneously.

British authorities estimate that there are about 27 billion coins bearing the image of Queen Elizabeth II.

Banknotes with the portrait of King Charles are expected to enter circulation by the middle of 2024.

The Royal Mail reported that postage stamps will be updated after those bearing the image of Queen Elizabeth II are exhausted.

On Monday, Buckingham Palace unveiled the new cypher of King Charles, which is used in state documents and will appear on governmental buildings and new mailboxes.

The cypher, selected by the new monarch from a series of designs prepared by the College of Arms, consists of the initials ‘C’ and ‘R’, which represent Charles’s name and “Rex”, Latin word for king, alongside a depiction of the crown.

On Sep. 10, King Charles III was officially proclaimed new King of the United Kingdom, in a ceremony held at St James’ Palace. (QNA)
