Washington, December 03 (QNA) – French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed a desire to settle the issue of trade exemptions that the European Union is asking the United States to include in its climate plan by the first half of 2023.

In remarks the day after his meeting with his US counterpart, Joe Biden, in Washington, Macron said, “For me, by the beginning of next year, we must have been able to settle this subject,” stressing the need for the EU to have trade exemptions because it is beneficial for the US and Europe.

He stated that the discussions are heading towards approving exemptions in favor of the European industry, similar to Canada and Mexico.

In a related context, the US President expressed willingness to correct flaws in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that he proposed and approved last summer without clearly mentioning any exceptions or concessions. (QNA)
