December 28 (QNA) – The Japan Football Association announced Wednesday that Japan’s head coach, Hajimi Moriyasu, will continue to serve until the 2026 World Cup.

Recently, Moriyasu led Japan to the second round at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 before the Samurai Warriors exit of the World Cup following the shoutout loss to Croatia.

Thus, if Japan national team qualify for the 2026 World Cup scheduled to be hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico, Coach Hajimi Moriyasu would be the first coach to lead the team in two consecutive World Cups.

Japan defeated Germany 2-1 in their opening match at the Qatar World Cup, then lost to Costa Rica 0-1, before beating Spain 2-1 to finish top of Group E and qualify for the last 16, in which they lost to Croatia on penalties 1-3. (QNA)
