Brasilia, December 29 (QNA) – Brazilian football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele, passed away at the age of 82 at a Sao Paulo hospital, his family said on Thursday.
His Daughter Kelly Nascimento confirmed on Instagram the death of the only player to win three World Cup trophies at the hospital where he was undergoing chemotherapy since having a tumor removed from his colon in 2021.
The Athlete of the Century, as named by the International Olympic Committee, won the World Cup titles in 1985, 1962 and 1970. Following a glorious soccer career, Pele was appointed Brazil’s extraordinary minister of sports. (QNA)
