Berlin, January 13 (QNA) – The German economy grew by 1.9 percent in real terms last year. This was announced by the Federal Statistical Office on Friday in Berlin.
The strong upswing expected before the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine did not materialize. In Jan. 2022, for example, the federal government still expected growth in gross domestic product (GDP) of 3.6 percent.
Germany’s economy has proven surprisingly resilient, already defying expectations of a contraction in the third quarter of last year. Recent economic data added to hopes that Germany may come through the current crisis in better-than-expected shape given its reliance on Russian gas for its key industrial sector. (QNA)
