Doha, January 30 (QNA) – Qatar’s squash national team player Abdulla Al Tamimi moved to 18th place in the global ranking – his best ever, according to the latest ranking of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) issued Monday.

Al Tamimi became the first Qatari and Gulf player to reach this position, recording a new achievement in his career.

In Nov. 2022, Al Tamimi was ranked 20th in the world rankings, but he managed to advance two places after he presented good levels during the last season after reaching the quarter-finals of the QTerminals Qatar Classic 2022, in addition to winning the titles of the Atlanta Championship 2022 (challenger category), and the Qatar Professional Championship (challenger category).

The Qatari player also showed a good performance at the beginning of the current season by reaching the third round of the JP Morgan tournament held in the US state of New York, one of the strong tournaments on the PSA agenda.

In a statement today, Al Tamimi expressed his happiness saying it is the best way to start the new season, thanking those who supported him.

Al Tamimi turned professional in 2011. He claimed a place in the world’s top 70 after two years and break into the world’s top 40 for the first time in Nov. 2016. Last year was a landmark for the national team player during which he stormed into the PSA’s top 20.

A graduate of the Aspire Academy in 2012, Al Tamimi was one of the most important talents that the Academy was keen to support and develop to achieve good results in various international tournaments.
